Dad,
I've spent so much time on this site lately
that this seemed like the best way to send
you a father's day card.

Over the last few years, as Danny has
grown up, I've been thinking a lot about
you in my shoes.  How old you were when
I did what.  Stuff like that.  As I tried to tell
you what you meant to me as a dad
something you said comes back to me.
You said once, "Push Jewboy!"  Just
kidding.  What I remember was you saying
to me, "You finally became cool enough to
hang out with and then you didn't want to
hang out with me."

I don't take that the wrong way - probably
because I share your sense of humor and
I understand what you mean.  I see my
kids growing up and I try to put myself in
your shoes.  A young dad - trying to figure
it out and trying not to go crazy.  Trying to
build a business so you can take care of
the braces, the birds, the VW repairs, and
the ski trips.

I look back on the things I said about you.
"He's like a bigger version of me." is what I
told my college friends right before you
walked in and quoted Encino Man (Heeey,
Buu-uuddy!)

To this day I can't figure out how you and
mom held it together.  I can't figure out if
you liked the movies I liked or if I liked the
movies I did because they were what you
liked.  We your interested in the stuff I
liked or did I like that stuff because you
did.  I've tried to remember that (as
confusing as it is) when dealing with my
kids.  Trying like heck to know who they
read, what they play and enjoying that
with them.  Most of the time I fail.  I just
don't get into it like they do.  Thankfully I
have done a good job of getting them
interested in things I can be interested in
too.  Danny watches cooking shows
voluntarily.  Jacob and I can kick a soccer
ball around and talk about the fish in the
tank.  Amber and the other girls just like to
be teased and tickled.

I guess the long and short of it is, thanks
for being my dad and my friend and
teaching me how to do that for my kids.
Somehow you and mom managed to raise
three kids that didn't rob banks, went on
missions and got married in the temple.  That is an amazing feat of parenting in my book!  You and mom should be proud!  All I know from this point on is, I
am learning every day how to be a dad.  I hope I do as well.

Let's find ways to hang out
more.  If we have to get in fighting shape and ride in Moab or just hit a Five Guy's after Priesthood session, I know I love being
with you and so do my kids.

As for all the clips . . . what better way to "soften" the mush stuff than to laugh together over some memorable favorite scenes?

Thanks for all you did, all you do and for being a man that I can look up to and learn from.  I love you.  Your son, Dan
