closer to Erenia's griddle cakes! I went back on Wednesday (see below) and discovered those life changing griddle cakes. Wednesday's special - Chicken Apple Sausage, Havarti Cheese, Shitake Mushrooms, Three Eggs, and choice of homemade hash browns or country-fries was a heap of breakfast straight from Flavor Town, USA. There was only one problem with the fresh squeezed OJ - I drank it too fast! But the show stopper was those perfect pancakes! I will quote my brother-in-law Wes, "I eat pancakes when someone else makes them. I don't make them and I NEVER pay for them! I would drive all the way here, wait in line, and order these pancakes on purpose!" (I think that's what he said, I was inhaling pancakes at the time!) I sat next to a regular, Justin from Detroit, who (although he denies it) moved to Phoenix 7 years a go for the pancakes and great service. He knows each waitress by name and gets his share of grief from his favorite - "Ernie". She made sure I didn't feel left out when she mocked me for letting my butter run off the griddle cakes and onto the counter. She knew I was a MBB newbie right off the bat! In short - Matt's Big Breakfast lives up to it's name. The food is fabulous and BIG on servings and taste! The place is super small so be prepared to wait - unless you make my mistake and show up on Monday - when there is no line any time and worst of all NO GRIDDLE CAKES! I made the mistake of trying to go there on a Monday! Warning for all you from-out-of-town, driving-from-state-to-state in motor homes, guy-following foodies - Matt's Big Breakfast is closed, closed, closed on Monday's! |

a reason to go back to Downtown Phoenix and
get me a plate of yellow, fluffy, melty, too good
to share, griddle cakes. If I thought I could
trust the UPS guy, I would try to have some
over-nighted! They are so good you will
probably email me and thank me for telling you
to get them! Don't get me wrong, you are
going to have to order the breakfast special
and a glass of fresh squeezed OJ too but if
you pass on the griddle cakes, you will be
missing something truly special!
So next time you are in Phoenix, stop in, order
