Because of how I got my address and episode information, I didn't pay attention
to the fact that this little place hadn't even been on the air yet. I walked into a
little place about 20 feet wide that maybe seats as many people and wondered
how they ever made it on the show. They aren't quirky. They aren't in a run
down old building passed down from generation to generation. No, just the
opposite is true. They are in a new looking little space wedged between a bike
shop and a drugstore in a strip mall that looks like it was built a year ago.
What I can say is, "Once again Fieri, you have found a gem!" Awesome place.
Awesome people. We liked it so much (as you will read below) that we actually
went back THREE times in four days.
One last suggestion - The CARNE ASADA takes 24 hours to make! Get some!

| For lunch I took my folks and nephew to a strip mall in Southwest Phoenix. I know. I know. Slow down there Mr. Fancypants big spender! But this place is something special - a little gem wedged between a supermarket and a drug store. Haven't ever heard of Taquitos Mexican Grill you say? Probably because a) it's in a strip mall between a grocery store and a drug store and b) because the Triple D episode featuring it won't air until some time in June of 2009. One again and true to form, we ordered a ton of food and I tried it all. The food is fresh and super tasty - due partly to their small kitchen - making it impossible to prep and store - and mostly to the pride the family takes in their work. Sopes, tacos, enchiladas (homemade sauce I'd wager) are awesome. We all loved them and I thank "Chris" (Christina) for making us try a Sope! But the real show stoppers were the carne asada burrito and the chicken rolled tacos! They rule! My mom and dad are both third generation Arizonans and they said they were the best taquitos they had ever had. This place is already a local favorite - I'll bet it will be packed to the walls after the show airs. Better set up tables in the parking lot! As a side note - we loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch! Well done!!! |
